NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Coppin Johnson Gallery is the oldest surviving commercial art gallery in KZN. The original name was the Neil Sack Gallery, a much sought-after arts outlet in the City centre which was started in the 1960’s. The name change came about in the 1980’s when Val Coppin Shaw became the present owner. Previously located in Glenwood Village, the gallery has now moved to the fashionable art gallery and restaurant belt on Florida Road (next to the Spar). The official opening launch of the venue will be conducted by architect Louis van Loon and will take place on July 21 at 17h00. Some 36 invited artists were supplied with identically-sized natural pine frames. They may use any preferred media, subject and may embellish the frames if they so wish. The exhibition closes on July 31. The new address is 5 Florida Centre, 275 Florida Road. Phone 031 312-7769.
