NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Disasters inevitable occur backstage and onstage in the world of theatre. The audience is more often than not oblivious to these crises, thanks to the consummate skill of the actors frantically working their way around missed cues, wrong lines, music striking up at unfortunate moments and blackouts in the wrong places! At the end of the evening, the audience leaves on a high, the cast collapses around the bar to discuss their triumphant victory over all odds. And everyone waits to read the reviews. A Warm Hand On Your Opening …! is an intimate, amusing, anecdotal revue which exposes, by way of comedy and song, the horrors and catastrophes that have befallen hapless performers on opening nights. All the tales are absolutely true and cover a huge range of disasters. Operas, plays and musicals are all here with tales from some of the worlds best-loved shows. My Fair Lady, Hamlet and Tosca rub shoulders with Othello, Carmen, The Sound of Music and Macbeth. Anthony Stonier, known throughout KZN for his superb voice and sharp wit, presents this brand new take on supper theatre and musical revue, giving it a fresh, fun feel. The show is directed by Lisa Bobbert who brings her madcap ideas to the production. Performances take place at the Rhumbelow Theatre on April 23 and 24 at 20h00 and on April 25 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner. Tickets R50, bring food baskets. Braais will be available for those who wish to cook meat. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. No alcohol may be brought onto the premises but a cash bar is available. Bookings through Roland on 031 205 7602 (h) or 082 499 8636 or e-mail roland@stansell.za.net
