NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Each year the ARA Be Your BestTM Rock ChallengeTM hosts workshops to guide educators and learners in putting together a professional and well thought-out performance. The second workshop, dealing with sound recording recently took place. The workshops are broken up into a three part sequel. During the sound recording workshop, all aspects of the performance are covered. Schools are prompted to bring their chosen musical backtracks along. This is then analysed for appropriateness and if the music is found lacking, an alternative is proposed. At the workshops, sound engineers are available to cut the chosen soundtracks and voice-overs to CD. Many of the participating schools give one of the learners a chance to sing or recite a poem; voice-overs for these are also recorded at the workshop. The tour dates and venues for The ARA Be Your BestTM Rock ChallengeTM include KZN with performances on August 27 for Primary Schools at the Durban Exhibition Centre with those following for high schools the following day on August 28 at the same venue.
