Yossi’s is a Moroccan Mediterranean Café in Durban’s leafy Glenwood area. It serves a variety of food from Mezze snacks to wraps, Pita’s and main dishes including stuffed Chicken Breasts. Lebanese roast Lamb and Mediterranean style Fillet steak.

Good news for jazz lovers in the area is that Yossi’s has revived its regular Jazz nights after much planning and communication from the University of KZN’s Centre for Jazz as well as the Comtec Music Academy in Umlazi. The aim is to create a platform where local talent can perform professionally in a smaller scale environment and gain exposure while being treated as professionals (ie income-earning).

The line up for the rest of June is up and coming jazz vocal talent Maya Spector with Dane Francis on Piano on June 18 followed by an ensemble from Umlazi Comtec Music Academy on June 25.

The ensemble from Umlazi Comtec Music Academy makes two further appearances on July 2 and 16.

On July 9, Yossi’s will host rising new UKZN jazz saxophonist talent Thabani Gapara who will perform with pianist Sbusiso Mashiloane. Two weeks later, Yossi’s welcomes singer/performer Thulile Zama who appears with Lukhetho Mthethwa on piano on July 23.

While the musicians are getting paid, there is no cover charge. The music starts at 19h15. Entry is free and a free glass of wine is offered with every dinner ordered.
