NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Durban’s newly formed opera ensemble promises fine entertainment for Classical music lovers in KwaZulu-Natal! The all-male group consists of four powerful classical singers who launched their group called Opera Kings at the Cathedral Church in Durban in July. The group comprises UKZN’s Opera Academy graduates and students with impressive voices: Mhlaba Buthelezi (tenor), Kwazi Makhanya (tenor), Brian Mnyandu (tenor) and Melusi Kubheka (baritone). Thanks is due to Lucky Sithole who has played a pivotal role in the formation of the group and in facilitating its first successful public performance which took place in Newcastle earlier this year. The versatile and professional vocalists can offer solo pieces, duets, trios, quartet, quintets and sextet. All these combinations have a wide range of repertoire including light music, Pop, Neapolitan, traditional, and Opera music which is the group’s specialty. For more information or to book the group, contact Kwazi on 072 141 0814.
