NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Young singer and entertainer Wayne Delport (25) died in Durban this afternoon. After an initial heart attack, he went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and died on his way to hospital. Wayne was well-known on the supper theatre circuit for his many performances at the Dockyard Theatre in productions such as Masters of Rock Vol 2 and Buddy Holly. At the time of his death, he was appearing in Let’s Party at the Stars Showbar in Umhlanga. “I have watched Wayne Delport’s progress with interest over the years since he appeared in Garth Anderson’s Tales From Brothers Grimm in 2000 and later through a series of Dockyard Theatre productions - almost stealing the show in Masters of Rock Volume 2!” wrote artSMart editor Caroline Smart of his latest performance at Stars Showbar. Further tributes will follow.
