This weekend sees the Upbeat Festival’s vibrant line-up of comedy shows and fringe theatre, rock and Christian bands, old favourites, school choirs, buskers, a day/night craft market and food court. It all takes place at Kearsney College, Botha’s Hill, which is hosting the festival for the third year running.

The festival features the KZN premier of Birds’ Eye View following its successful run at the National Arts Fringe Festival in Grahamstown. A fast-paced romp for all ages, it communicates a positive message. Another drama production to look out for is the classic Peter Pan.

The Suncoast Upbeat Comedy Festival hosts popular comedians Kevin Perkins (also known as Michael Naicker) and Mark Banks. The Big Tent will be transformed into a live Rock Band venue with Cubic Inch, Love Jones, SpoonFeedas, Snoux and Centrefold the stage. Stuart Mey of the Dockyard Theatre will present his popular supper theatre format of The ABBA Show on the Standard Bank Stage.

Sunday sees the hosting of The Yamaha Upbeat Christian Rock Festival tomorrow featuring the inspirational Hilton Greig, Flud, Ernie Smith and The Arrows.

Bringing the festival to a close will be the an open air concert with the international award-winning Kearsney College Choir, together with invited choirs from St Mary’s DSG, Highbury and the Fulton School for the Deaf.
