NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Baroque 2000’s next concert takes place on May 28 in the Musgrave area. The theme of this month’s programme is French and Italian Masters and the featured composers are Lully (selection of charming ballet pieces), Corelli, (concerto Grosso no 8), Albinoni (Sinfonia op2 no 5) and Muffat (Armonico Tributo). There is also a curtain raiser from Sweden: Per Brant’s Sinfonia. Durban’s well established Baroque 2000 ensemble broadcasts regularly and will appear at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in July. They will perform L'Europe Galante (Gallant Europe) a 17th century opera-ballet by André Campra performed with three singers and two dancers. The musical director is Chiara Banchini and Boyzie Cekwana creates the original choreography. The concert on May 28 takes place at 11h30 at St Olav’s church in St Thomas Road, Musgrave.
