NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Auditions for The Wiz, this year's Unilever Young Performers annual production will take place on April 27 at rehearsal room 503 in the Playhouse, Durban. Registration will be from 09h00 to 11h00 only and entrance is through the stage door in Acutt Street. The Wiz follows the last five successful Unilever Young Performers Musicals: Curtain Up, One Voice, Grease, Oliver! and last year's Fiddler on the Roof. The 2006 Unilever Young Performers' project is scheduled to run from July 7 to 23 this year at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Producer, Linda Van der Veen of Snazzi Events and Entertainment once again has a strong professional team on board with director Themi Venturas, vocal director Charon Williams-Ros, choreographer Janet Hare and musical director Dawn Selby, in conjunction with theatre manager- Jackie Cunniffe and the Elizabeth Sneddon Team. Talented youth who get through the dance and song round of auditions on April 27 will be expected to remain till 17h00 for the acting auditions. Participants getting through to the final audition process would need to be available to attend these on April 29 at the Catalina Theatre from 13h00 to 17h00. Thereafter casting will take place. The criteria to audition is that you must be able to speak English, be between 12 and 18 years old and be at high school. You must be able to sing, dance or act as this is a musical, and have a passion for performing. You must be available to attend weekend rehearsals till the show opens on July 7 and available to rehearse every day from June 26 to July 7. You must be available to do the show every evening and weekend from July 7 to 23. You are not required to book a time for the auditions, just be there by 09h00 on April 27.
