Baroque 2000’s next concert on November 20 presents a collection of pieces for various combinations of eight brass instruments and organ from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Composers featured include Orlando di Lasso, Giles Farnaby, and also Giovanni Gabrieli, whose celebrated works were written for performance in the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, the instruments being divided into various groups or ‘choirs’, producing striking antiphonal or stereophonic effects from the groups placed around the church. Carol Stranex will also play pieces for solo organ.
