Christopher Duigan will be at the piano for his Musical Revival programme which introduces three promising young opera soloists -Selby Hlangu, Mhlaba Buthelezi and Lauren Dasappa - at concerts in Pietermaritzburg and Hillcrest. Christopher The first concert is titled Some Enchanted Evening which forms part of a gala dinner event on the three tiers of the Parklane Centre in Pietermaritzburg. The programme includes a popular selection of operatic numbers from Carmen and Marriage of Figaro as well as You’ll never walk alone, Some enchanted evening, O Sole mio and other classics. The concert takes place on June 25 at 19h00 and tickets at R100 include a three-course meal and welcome drink. Booking and advance payment essential – contact 033 342-3051 or e-mail: booking@musicrevival.co.za As part of his forthcoming Mostly Monday series at the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest, Christopher will present a similar event on June 27. Talented young baritone Selby Hlangu is currently enrolled at the Opera School and Choral Academy (OSCA) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. A rising star in the local music world, he was recently awarded a scholarship to spend a year at the Young Artists Programme at Opera Queensland, Australia. Mhlaba Buthelezi (lyric tenor) is also a student at OSCA. He has performed concert with the KZNPO at a University Lunch Hour Concert and sang the role of Ferrando in OSCA's production of Act 1 of Cosi fan tutti by Mozart. Lauren Dasappa's desire to pursue music as a profession was first inspired when she joined the church choir at the age of 13. In 2001, she enrolled to study music at the University of Natal. Lauren performed in UND's Opera Gala Concert at the Playhouse Opera Theatre and at the KZNPO/SASMT Young Performers Concert. She was highly acclaimed for her role of Gretel in Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel. Lauren was also winner of the East Coast "Pop Princess" Competition. The performance on June 27 at the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest is at 19h00 for supper with the show at 20h30. Tickets R140 include a two-course meal and show ticket.
