NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Deluxe will appear in concert at the TransAfrica Restaurant at the BAT Centre on April 16 at 21h00. Deluxe formed two years ago when Torsten Fehsenfeld (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Aidan Cornhill (lead guitar) blended their mutual love of great songwriting and honest music into a simple duo playing music they knew would move listeners. The term ‘deluxe’ means, literally “of the highest quality”, and this formed the guideline for everything the band produces. The solid groundwork paid off when renowned local musicians showed interest and soon bass player Roly Struckmeyer and drummer Adam Stanley joined to form a four-piece band. Their sound filled out while keeping the simplicity and spaciousness that first made the songs beautiful and special. Deluxe has made significant progress in the past year, with a demo and live recording under their belts. Following these with a live radio performance and appearances at many gigs and major festivals such as Splashy Fen, Flux and Southern Cross, proving themselves as a worthy live act. They have now completed the recording of their debut album This is Deluxe. The entire production of which has been funded independently by the band. It comprises 11 songs, beautifully crafted and co produced by legend David Birch (Squeal) at Tropical Sweat Studios. The first single It’s alright has already been playlisted on East Coast Radio, Highveld Stereo and Radio 2000. The band is about to begin touring nationally, to promote their album. Entrance R20. More information and bookings on 031 332 0804.
