NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Nuts 4 Music in association with The Catalina Theatre presents Andrew Warburton in a Catalina Classical Champagne Concert titled Sounds of Summer on March 6. Durban’s most popular and well known classical pianist, Andrew Warburton promises some “cool music” for these hot days of summer! The programme will include the 1st Movement of Schubert’s Sonata in Bb Opus 0960; Chopin’s Nocturne and Waltz in C# minor; Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen – Nocturne and Butterfly and last but not least, three of Scott Joplin’s most popular Ragtime pieces. Andrew needs no introduction to Durban audiences and all lovers of classical music are well acquainted with his many and varied performances, both in Durban and throughout the rest of South Africa. Whether it is performing as a solo artist with the KZNPO or accompanying singers and instrumentalists at concert venues in the province, he has built up a strong following since he first began playing as a student of Isabella Stengel’s at the Natal University (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal). The concert will take place at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf on March 6 at 12h00. Tickets R60 include a glass of champagne and snacks from The Mad Greek Restaurant. To book phone Thandeka at The Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
