Now in its fifth successful year, the Playhouse Company will present its annual two hour-long variety performance Omnibus for primary schools in the Playhouse Opera from August 21 to 25 with two shows per day.

The show will feature Dance Masala, Cos’ Cosi and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

From Smeetha Maharaj’s Nateshwar Dance Company and Institute of Kathak and Folk Dance, Dance Masala is an exciting, colourful display of Indian dance from traditional to contemporary and includes loads of audience participation.

Cos’ Cosi is a term associated with traditional African storytelling. From Nathi Kunene Productions, this story-telling item explores traditional folk stories from different South African cultures. The show also features in The Playhouse Company’s South African Women’s Arts Festival 2000 opening on August 9 (National Women’s Day).

Now the only professional orchestra in South Africa, the KZN Philharmonic conducted by Naum Rousine will perform an abridged version of its education and development concerts. These are designed to whet the appetite of all music lovers as well as those who have never before seen the orchestra in action. The KZNPO will demonstrate musical instruments as well as excerpts from Mozart and Brahms, among others.
