NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Local culinary celebrity Justin Bonello will be cooking up a storm at Splashy Fen this year, when he and his production crew film the first episode of their third season of Cooked using this popular music festival as a backdrop. Cooked is a cooking adventure TV show that sees Bonello and friends travelling around South Africa cooking meals in unique locations. Although he often has only the most rudimentary of kitchen utensils and equipment at his disposal, Bonello’s enthusiasm and love of food is infectious and inspiring. To him, it’s all about being creative and enjoying the experience. The second season goes on air in July 2007 on BBC Food (DSTV channel 70) and the third season in mid-2008. Splashy Fen takes place over the Easter weekend from April 5 to 9 on a farm near Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg region of KwaZulu-Natal. The longest running music festival in the country, it offers performances by over 70 of South Africa’s hottest established and up-and-coming artists and a host of other fun activities to keep you entertained while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings. Tickets at selected Game stores in KZN (R285), Computicket (R310) and at the festival gate (R350). The price includes camping and entrance for children under 12 is free.
