The Vivid People's Choice Awards is a unique recognition award system honouring those who have given of themselves and in so doing, have uplifted, supported and entertained the people of South Africa. In the first phase of the award programme, members of the public were called on to nominate the individual of their choice in any one of five categories - business, entertainment, humanitarian, sport and life time achievement. The resulting 100 nominees will go through to the The Night of 100 Stars gala award ceremony on November 27 which is to be broadcast on e.tv the same evening.

The 20 nominees in the Entertainment Category, which is sponsored by Daimler Chrysler SA, are Johnny Clegg, Abdullah Ebrahim, Brenda Fassie, Bill Flynn, Athol Fugard, Steve Hofmeyer, John Kani, Gibson Kente, Sibongile Khumalo, Felicia Mabuza-Suttle, Ringo Madlingozi, Joe Mafela, Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbuli, Mbongeni Ngema, Tony Sanderson, Leon Schuster, Charlize Theron, Pieter Dirk Uys and Brümilda van Rensburg.
