The death of Wonderboy Gumede, who died last week in a car accident in London, marks another sad loss in the South African performing arts industry.

A veteran member of the Eager Artists Company he has been involved in numerous drama and dance productions with The Playhouse Company. Nominated in 2003 for a Lead Actor of the Year Award by the, he consistently impressed over the years with focused and commited performances in Eager Artists productions such as Mine Ghosts, Ziyabuya eMkhumbane, Animal Farm and The Island. His performance in The Island earned him a nomination for Best Actor’s Award in the Durban Theatre Awards in 2003.

Wonderboy Gumede’s memorial service will be held at the Courtyard Theatre on the Steve Biko Campus of the Durban University of Technology on September 14 at 12h00.
