NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Just in time for the April school holidays comes a charming magical children’s play – Mrs Moppet’s Garden – to be staged at the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf from April 1 to 15. From the same pen that brought the award-winning The Adventures of Jabulani Jo, comes an exciting new work for young people. The Secret of Mrs Moppet’s Garden is written by Janna Ramos-Violante and tells the tale of three young friends who wander into the mysterious and magical Mrs Moppet’s garden. Whilst in the garden they learn all sorts of things about themselves and nature before they can return home. The production features an energetic and animated cast of exciting new-comers, Sean de Klerk (soon to be seen in the drama And 5, 6, 7, 8… about life as a dancer, at the Catalina Theatre from April 5 to 22); Brett Kyle (better known for appearing in the open air Shakespeare’s on campus) and Danielle Perlman (currently playing Ophelia in the Actor’s Co-op’s Hamlet). The fantasy-filled show for kids is presented for the Easter holidays and will include a boat. If the boys and girls are well behaved, the elusive Easter Bunny may pop by for a visit and share some Easter eggs. It is suitable for younger children - from three upwards. Mrs Moppet’s Garden runs at the Catalina Theatre from April 1 to 15 at 11h00. Tickets R45 per person include a boat ride around Durban Harbour (R30 for the show only). Tickets available online at www.strictlytickets.co.za or at www.catalinatheatre.co.za
