NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Ethekwini Municipality will present a highly entertaining and exceptional line-up of stand up comedians in a comedy festival, which takes place over two weekends in December. The festival kicks off with 100% Zulu Stand-up Comedy followed by Let Durban Laugh (see separate article). An inaugural and unique stand up comedy show successfully launched in October, the 100% Zulu Stand Up Comedy is aimed at profiling and developing aspiring local Zulu comics. This concept was born out of the need and demand for local Zulu comics to give them national stages for wider recognition. Leading the pack in 100% Zulu Stand-up Comedy will be well-known Johannesburg based performer and comedian Kenneth Nkosi, generally known as Kenny Makenzo or Mzee Wa 2 Six. Popular Ntokozo Dlamini, fresh from the movie Faith like Potato, will be making a short feature on stage together with the effervescent Ukhozi FM jock, Linda Sibiya. The man that everyone love to hate because of his day job as a traffic officer, Ayanda Msweli, will be making his debut on the big stage and has vowed issue ticket fines to everyone not laughing at his jokes. Representing the local comedy scene will be the well celebrated Sthe Khumalo; the “next big thing” in the comedy circuit Simphiwe Shembe; the up-and-coming extrovert Justice Kubheka as well as Celeste Ntuli and Felix Hlope as well as the man from Clermont who simply prefers to be known as Flai Mpukane. 100% Zulu Stand Up Comedy is presented on December 1 at 19h30 at the DLI Hall (next to Greyville Race Course). Book at Computicket outlet or at www.computicket.co.za Tickets R60 with a 10% discount for group bookings of 10 or more. More information on 031 311 4544. Ethekwini Municipality is grateful to the festival’s supporters: Daily News, Ilanga, Ukhozi FM, Gagasi 99.5
