NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. After the success of the national tour of Disgrace in 2002 and 2003, Clare Mortimer has adapted Ian McEwan’s Atonement for IEB Matriculants in 2004. Ian McEwan’s beautiful and haunting novel has been sensitively brought to the stage in an hour-long piece that takes care to highlight the essential events and questions the novel poses. Learners are encouraged to remain afterwards to discuss their ideas about the novel and have the cast share their interpretation. The cast of three take on all major roles, in this focused and informed educational piece. Clare Mortimer (herself a teacher in English); Olivia Borgen and Bryan Hiles are all award winners and nominees of prestigious theatre awards, and have studied the novel thoroughly in order to be equipped to deal with issues the learners may raise. There will be one performance on April 29 at 19h30 at the Hilton College Theatre. Tickets R30. Bookings on 033 383 0126.
