SIBUSISO DUMA (article first published : 2002-08-2)

The African Art Centre is to host an exhibition of acyrlic paintings by 24 year old artist Sibusiso Duma from August 14.

Sibusiso Duma started drawing houses and cars when he was at primary school. He later met the well-known artist Trevor Makhoba and for some years, went after school for some tuition at Trevor's studio. He has been painting on his own for four years and makes telling comments on society in general.

He depicts the human figure in many activities: building a house, sweeping a road, cutting grass, friends meeting and in conversation. Some of his subject matter touches on racism and cultural customs.

The exhibition opens at 17h30 on August 14. The African Art Centre is situated in Tourist Junction. More details from 031 304-7915.
