NOBAHLE JALI (article first published : 2002-06-15)

Art teacher Robin Opperman of the Ningizimu School for the Severely Mentally Handicapped is a very delighted man.

“We are totally over the moon,” he reports, “as the organizers of the NBS Young Entrepreneurs Awards for 2002 have just informed us that Nobahle Jali, one of my pupils who has been running an income generating project to crochet items out of scrap plastic for sale, is to receive a cash prize and a Special Merit Certificate.

“Nobahle has not only been earning an income for herself, but is also busy establishing other co-operatives and training their members. Her most recent project is in collaboration with City Health, and involves unemployed women from a hostel in Umlazi.

More information from Robin on 031 305-3408 or e-mail: michaelm@iafrica.com or visit http://users.iafrica.com/a/a4/a4exhib/
