BERNICE STOTT INSTALLATION (article first published : 2002-04-15)

The Colours That Come Back To You From The World is the title of a video installation by Bernice Stott in the Multi-Media Room at the NSA

Bernice Stott recently completed her BTech degree at Technikon Natal. Active as an artist, priest in the Anglican Church and community workshop facilitation, Stott's installation focuses on her interest in making work that explores womanhood, body, the spirited and spiritual in the process of transformation that includes the ambit of degradation. The installation is influenced by Japanese Kabuki Theatre.

The video engages layered identity, from the persona (mask) we present to others through to our constructions of who we believe we are in our conscious life. The installation is set in a space of mirrored surfaces to enhance the effect of introspection, reflection and identity multiplicity.

The exhibition runs until April 28.
