BRONZE CASTING WORKSHOP (article first published : 2002-02-22)

Kim Goodwin and Sarah Richards are running a combined bronze casting workshop.

The idea is to give people a chance to experience making a bronze first-hand and to bring awareness to the process by demystifying it and thereby making both sculpture and bronze casting more accessible. Both artist and non-artists are welcome to attend. People will need to bring a wax sculpture to the workshop or a mould so Kim can pour a suitable wax ready for casting. The participants will then have a least two sculptures by the end of the workshop a large and a small bronze and a cuttlefish cast sculpture.

The workshop will be run over three days at the Goodwin Foundry in the KZN Midlands on April 13 then the following weekend, April 20 and 21. Accommodation can be organised.

The cost of the workshop is R1,090 and includes the price of the bronze, dipping costs, cuttlefish casting and Saturday night dinner. Deposit of R600 is required.

Contact Sarah on 083 707-0126.
