NOMINATIONS CALLED FOR PRIZE (article first published : 2001-12-29)

FNB Vita once again invites the public to make their nominations for the artist of their choice for the FNB Vita Art Prize 2002. The competition, culminating in an exhibition of the selected artists' works, aims to promote interest in and provoke debate around controversial, cutting-edge contemporary South African art.

This year's exhibition was held for the first time in Durban at the NSA Gallery and saw Moshekwa Langa emerge as the winner. It then had a second showing at the Market Theatre Gallery, giving art fans in Johannesburg the opportunity to engage with the commissioned works.

A panel of judges will review and consider all nominations and a short list of four artists will be drawn up. Each artist will be commissioned to produce a work for the FNB Vita Art Prize Exhibition to be held in 2002 at The Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg from July 13 to August 3. The overall winner will receive R35,000.

Members of the public are invited to nominate any artist countrywide whose work has been exhibited in a recognised gallery between January and December 2001. Simply complete the nomination form, available in all participating galleries or download it from www.artslink.co.za/fnb and return it to FNB Vita Awards at fax 011 442 8523 or PO Box 378, Auckland Park, 2006.

The closing date for public nominations for the FNB Vita Art Prize is January 31, 2002.

For further information or nomination forms, call FNB Vita on (011) 442 8435, e-mail: fnbvita@mweb.co.za or visit www.artslink.co.za/fnb
