SEE EASI (article first published : 2001-09-21)

On the last Sunday of every month the NSA Gallery, in conjunction with the Arts Café, invade every possible inch of space (stoeps, driveways and pavements) between the Davenport and Ferguson Roads with quality artwork in the art fair See Easi.Diverse Durban artists are given the opportunity to showcase their goods at a nominal fee, creating the only outdoor event of its kind in Durban.

“We are also excited to introduce a new addition to this monthly affair, featuring a special guest exhibitor,” says Storm Janse van Vuuren, the NSA’s gallery curator. “This month, the African Art Centre has been invited to showcase works from a variety of local artists represented by this prominent Durban institution. A selection of high quality paintings, drawings and printmaking will be on display at affordable prices.”

Activities for the day include entertainment by the evergreen Jimmy and the Crickets, renowned for their special brand of Dixie.

Children’s activities and entertainment for the whole day will be organised and overseen by Lisa and Melissa of SoulLite Centre. They keep the little ones occupied with relaxation and breathing techniques, stretching and stamina, colour craft, nature exploration and movement extension while parents relax in close proximity at the Arts Café. A small fee of R10 will be charged and there are three half-hour sessions commencing at 11h30, 13h00 and 14h30.

See Easi takes place on September 30 from 09h00 to 15h00 and there will be a variety of takeaway cuisine and titbits. More details from Storm on (031) 202-3686 or email: iartnsa@mweb.co.za
