ART IN THE PARK (article first published : 2001-05-15)

Pietermaritzburg’s popular annual outdoor art exhibition Art in the Park takes place this year from May 30 to June 3 in Alexandra Park. Opening hours are from 10h00 to 20h00 but the exhibition closes early on the final day at 16h00.

The event was first launched in 1962 and has been sponsored by renovation specialists Gordon Verhoef and Krause for the past 12 years. This year a total of 55 established artists and six emerging artists will be in attendance. Among the highlights will be Beth Freeman-Kane’s finely detailed bird miniatures, Christopher Haw’s watercolours and Mat Louwrens’ sand paintings.

There will be live entertainment throughout the day and extra parking and security has been made available at Kershaw Park. Catering is courtesy of Round Table with light meals and refreshments available right through the opening hours. A wine bar will be featured on Art in the Park for the first time this year which will be open from 16h00.
