GRANNYPICASSO (article first published : 2000-09-19)

Take a few moments to visit http://www.artslink.co.za/grannypicasso

The vibrant and colourful abstracts are produced by UK-born Ivy Walmsley (Grannypicasso) who at the age of 75 has once again taken up the skills she learned at Trinity School in her youth. Now retired, she finds that her art is her “doctor” as well as her “joy”.

Born in Preston, England, the daughter of a prominent antique dealer, Grannypicasso was 14 when she won a scholarship to the Harris Acadamy of Art and her earlier interests in painting were guided by many of the great masters. In later years, after emigrating to the [then] Rhodesia, she studied the works of Picasso, Miro, Jackson Pollack and Matisse as well as those of the great impressionists such as VanGogh and Chagall. The style she now exhibits is an amalgam of all her past experience and her inspired devotion to Expressionism.

On visiting her website, prospective clients should note that the art material and paints used have been covered with the latest cutting edge technology coating. This has been especially developed for durability and protection so it is not necessary to cover Grannypicasso Art Pieces with glass.
