DIROZOULOU (article first published : 2000-06-12)

A wonderful array of wire baskets beautifully weaved is currently on display at the BAT Centre’s Menzi Mcunu Gallery. Working with telephone wire weavers, Elliot Ndwandwe, Alice Gcaba, Zodwa Maphumulo, Vincent Sithole and Simon Mavundla from Siyanda informal settlement outside Durban, French artist Herve di Rosa has generated a collaboration has pushed all boundaries to produce the biggest telephone wire art works to date.

The project was co-ordinated by Marisa Fick-Jordaan and the Bat Shop in association with the French Institute of South Africa and Association Francaise dí Action Artistique/Ministry of French Foreign Affairs. From the BAT Centre the exhibition will travel to the Standard Bank Gallery in Johannesburg, opening July and then to Paris.
