ILS REVENT LE MONDE (article first published : 2000-05-15)

The Expo Ils rêvent le Monde (Dream World) shares the vision of the year 2000 as expressed by a group of French artists renowned for their comic strip art. Although South Africans may have an acquaintance with the widely popular Tintin or Astérix and Obélix comics, they represent only a fraction of the wealth of comic art that French and Belgian artists have produced. French artists are leaders in the comic strip art form in the diversity of both styles and themes. Comic art is also gaining importance in the French publishing world.

The exhibition of illustrations is accompanied by artists' statements addressing themes from the realm of science fiction. Subjects include:Exploration - Time and Space Travel, World War III - Will it Happen? - De-humanised Society, After the Apocalypse - the Survivors and The Cyber Future.
