BIENNALE 7 AND JABULISA 2 (article first published : 2000-05-13)

The success of the last Natal Arts Trust Biennale exhibitions and the resultant Jabulisa exhibition in 1996 lay in showcasing the diverse creativity of the visual arts in KZN. Frequent subsequent requests from artists and curators for further exhibitions of this nature have prompted the Natal Arts Trust to undertake a similar project in 2000 and 2001.

The intention of the Biennale 2000 KZN exhibitions is to showcase creative production in the visual arts of the regions. To accomplish this, Biennale exhibitions will be held in Empangeni, Margate, Newcastle, Durban and Pietermaritzburg Art Galleries during 2000. From the various regional exhibitions, selections will be made to form the Jabulisa 2 exhibition which will be seen in Natal in 2001. In Durban the exhibition will be held at the Technikon Natal Gallery, the Alliance Franšaise and the BAT Centre from August 15 to September 8.

Entry forms are available at Technikon Natal Gallery; NSA Galleries; Durban Art Gallery, BAT Centre, and Alliance Franšaise. To qualify, entrants must be resident in KZN. Entrants are advised to take careful note of the conditions of entry in terms of the limited size of works and the venue to which their work should be delivered. Entries must be submitted to the Alliance Franšaise on August 3 and 4 while those to the Technikon Natal Gallery and the BAT Centre should be delivered on August 4 and 5. Works must be removed on August 9, after the judging panel has selected the works to be exhibited.

This prestigious exhibition will be one of the major events on the Durban calendar for the year 2000 and since artists will receive considerable publicity as well as the possibility of sales, all artists in and around Durban are encouraged to participate.
