ART WRITERS WORKSHOP (article first published : 2008-05-19)

The Writers Workshop is offering an opportunity to learn more basic skills in conducting interviews and writing articles on art to artists, senior art students and writers interested in art. The workshop is for two days to allow for elaborative participation, practice writing and reflect on the results of the writing exercises.

The workshop will be conducted by Nina Gruntkowski, a German freelance journalist specialising in cultural and socio-political issues, migration and cultural exchange between Europe and the African continent.

Nina Gruntkowski works in Cologne/Germany. During her studies of geography and ethnology, she specialised on southern Africa and later on the Portuguese-speaking countries. Since 2003, she has worked as a journalist mainly for the radio and some internet publications. Her work focuses on social politic issues, migration and culture in Africa and cultural exchange with and within Europe.

In 2004 on a three month-scholarship from the German Heinz-Kühn-Foundation, she investigated the reintegration in Mozambique after the civil war. Since January 2005, she has worked regularly as a journalistic trainer for the Deutsche Welle (the international German broadcast) giving trainings to young journalists in Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking African countries.

The workshops take place on May 26 and 27 in the D.U.T Art Gallery, Mansfield road, from 09h00 to 16h00. There are only places for 10 to 12 people, so booking is essential. To book e-mail name and contact number to artgallery@dut.ac.za or call 031 373 2207. A detailed workshop programme will be e-mailed on confirmation of participation.

This workshop has been made possible by Dr. Ralf Seippel, Seippel Art & Culture, (Cologne/ Johannesburg) and Beate Baethke, IAA – Investment Advisory Africa (London)
