RETROSPECTIVE (article first published : 2008-05-18)

The Kizo Art Gallery at Gateway is hosting a Hannes Harrs’ Retrospective.

Hannes Harrs was a German born artist who settled in South Africa at the age of 23. He had a deep love of Africa and the continent clearly played a massive role in his work in terms of shapes, textures, colours and even his use of textiles such as Kuba cloth.

He was an accomplished painter, printmaker and sculptor and his works grace important private and public collections throughout the world. These collections include The SASOL, ABSA, Johannesburg Art Gallery, Pretoria Art Gallery, Durban Art Gallery, Rembrandt Art Foundation Stellenbosch, Rathaus Eckernforde, Preussag Hanover, Schloss Gottorf Schleswig and many more.

Kizo is exhibiting a large selection of his works on behalf of Hannes Harrs’s family, including many paintings and sculptures. This exhibition offers collectors a valuable opportunity to acquire one of these wonderful pieces that are no longer being produced.

Hannes Harrs died in 2006 but his memory lives on in the works of art that he created.

Retrospective runs until May 27 in the Upstairs Gallery of the Kizo Art Gallery at Gateway. More information from Kizo curator Nathi Gumede on 031 566 4324, fax 031 566 2494 or email: nathig@kizo.co.za or visit www.kizo.co.za
