TATHAM EVENTS (article first published : 2008-02-2)

The Pietermaritzburg-based Tatham Art Gallery’s 2008 programme is well underway.

Running in the Main hall until May 4 is the New Acquisition Exhibition featuring recently-acquired art pieces and works that have not yet been accessioned to the gallery’s collection.

From February 7 to May 4, the Tatham will host Edendale Excels which celebrates the achievements of Edendale community through the work of four artists from Edendale. The exhibition will show works by Michael Zondi, Gerard Bhengu, Chickenman Mkhize and Siyabonga Sikosana. The works of these artists will also be presented at the Georgetown library and the exhibition will run at this venue from February 8 to 29.

On Fridays from 14h30 to 16h30, the Tatham offers art classes opened to the public. These take place at the Old Presbyterian Church next to the art gallery. The cost is R150 for the first term.

Tatham Art Gallery Shop is a good place to buy gifts and collectables at reasonable prices. The shop is open from 10h00 until 16h00 from Tuesday to Sunday.

The Tatham Art Gallery is situated in Chief Albert Luthuli (Commercial) Road opposite the Pietermaritzburg City Hall. More information on 033 392 2801 or visit http://www.tatham.org.za
