MDUDUZI XAKAZA (article first published : 2007-09-29)

The next exhibition at the African Art Centre in Lower Morningside features landscape paintings by Mduduzi Xakaza.

Mduduzi Xakaza says of his paintings that they are “based on my personal awareness and appreciation of the compelling aesthetic qualities of nature. My work is also a reflection of my childhood memories at Maphumulo and other neighbouring districts, KwaZulu-Natal.”

Mduduzi has a deep sense of admiration for “the natural wonders that we as humans are privileged to experience on a daily basis”. At an intellectual level, he is drawn to various spaces where he finds himself interrogating the essence of our existence and responsibilities towards the divine force that has presumably given rise to all these natural wonders.

The exhibition of paintings by Mduduzi Xakaza will be opened by Jill Addleson on October 10 at 17h30 and will run until October 27.
