LANDSCAPE: EXPANDING HORIZONS (article first published : 2007-09-21)

From September 10 to 22, the Garret Artists will again exhibit their work at artSPACE durban. Members of the public are invited to investigate how landscapes can develop and evolve via a variety of drawing and graphic techniques, including frottage and collage, and, on occasions, finger painting.

“In this exhibition, students explore the relationship between what they see and what they feel,” explains Jeanette Gilks, coordinator of Garret Artists who runs drawing workshops countrywide for advanced students.

“By developing flashes of inspiration,” she adds, “they can create new frameworks for ongoing ideas and, amongst other things, they learn to develop continuity within innovation. My workshops aim to clear the mind of possible misconceptions/preconceptions about the nature and function of drawing”.
