MEYER ERNST DONATES PAINTINGS (article first published : 2007-08-24)

Dr Meyer Ernst, the prolific and well-known Ballito-based artist, has donated two of his works, Zimbali Beach Ride 1 and Zimbali Beach Ride 2, to the Nicholas Rey Foundation Trust.

The trust will host a Spring Gala ball on September 1 at the Diamond X Ranch in Rayton, Johannesburg, and these artworks will be auctioned at the event to raise funds for those injured in equestrian sports.

Meyer Hendrick Ernst was born on a cattle farm in Ranfontein in 1938. He pursued his degree in Natural Science and, upon completion of his bachelorís, he read for his medical degree at the University of Pretoria. He has practised as a General Family Practitioner and sees patients on a sessional basis.

He has had a lifelong interest in art but he only began to draw and paint seriously in 1996. He regards himself as a colourist with an expressionist flair and his paintings have been exhibited both locally and internationally. He has sold over 190 paintings and his speciality is portraits, landscapes, seascapes and still life. His favoured medium is oils and he draws inspiration from the indigenous setting of his north coast studio.
