RICHARD LETSATSI BOLLER (article first published : 2007-07-30)

Fresh Paint is a new spacious gallery in Durban’s Glenwood area specialising in unusual and quirky pieces of art from throughout South Africa.

Its first exhibition, A Journey to Art showcases major artistic talent from the smaller towns in the Free State.

The exhibition was officially opened by artist Richard Letsatsi Boller who is also CEO of the Mbabana Cultural Centre in Thaba ‘Nchu. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in South Africa, Botswana and Cuba. In 2000 he received a judges’ award for his painting African Renaissance in the Sasol New Signatures Competition.

Richard Boller is among the artists represented in exhibiting in A Journey to Art alongside Coral Fourie, Michelle Nigrini, Willem Pretorius, Rika Senekal, Motseokae Klas Thibeletsa (MK), Riaan van den Berg and others.

Fresh Paint occupies the gracious Victorian home (with large distinctive blue spotted dogs on the roof) at 60 Davenport Road in Glenwood. It is run by Greg and Lynn May with John Wheaton and Immins Naude who are all involved in the advertising industry.

While not neglecting KZN artists, Greg May’s vision is to exhibit art makers and crafters from outside KZN whose work doesn’t currently have a presence here. The Fresh Paint Gallery will show work by established industry leaders as well as emerging art-makers gleaned mostly from small towns.
