PALETTES IN THE PARK (article first published : 2007-06-1)

The Glenwood Community Forum is a group of educators, business/professional people, religious leaders and law enforcement officers who want to make a difference in the Glenwood community.

The Forum’s vision is to see Glenwood as a community where family values attract the highest consideration and as a place where the arts are encouraged and educational excellence is synonymous with the area. The wider aim is to present a suburb where sport flourishes, businesses thrive and criminals fear to tread.

To launch the Forum and its ideals to the public, a weekend of festivities is planned for June 15 to 16. As part of this programme, the KZNSA Gallery will host Palettes in the Park featuring winning art from local schools in the area.

On June 16 the KZNSA invites a maximum of 30 artists in the lower end of Bulwer Park, right next to the KZNSA Gallery, to make or sell their art to the general public. This will be of the style of Pietermaritzburg’s Art in the Park, although on a smaller scale at this stage. This may be the start of things to come! Support this event with your involvement or at least visit the activities on the day. Palettes in the Park will run from 10h00 to 15h30.

The first 30 artists to pay R50 “entrance fee” to Ida Heydenrych will secure a slot in Palettes in the Park. Call Ida on 031 277 1702 or e-mail gallery@kznsagallery.co.za

The entrance fee will be given to the Glenwood Community Forum to support and promote their activities. Any sales that the artists make are for their pocket and will not be subject to any commission. The artist is responsible for any equipment that he/she may require.
