ANGELA BUCKLAND PHOTOGRAPHY (article first published : 2007-03-3)

The Durban University of Technology present the Artists’ Visiting Programme for 2007. This is an ongoing initiative aimed at developing students’ interaction with professional practicing artists.

Structured in an exhibition format, the DUT Art Gallery has invited professional practicing artists’ to exhibit and engage with DUT students through seminars.

“It is a teaching aid programme formulated as an art exhibition and seminars. To engage students from senior level enrolled in the art and design courses by inviting practicing professional artists to interact and share knowledge with students about the art industry,” said Nontobeko Ntombela, DUT’s Art Gallery Curator.

Durban based photographer Angela Buckland is the first artist to be launched in 2007. Targeting Fine Art and Photography senior students, her seminar focuses on ethical issues relating to her book Zip Zip My Brain Harts. The seminar

This project is a result of several consultations with the Department of Fine Arts. It includes a day presentation by the artists exhibiting in the gallery as a mechanism of informing and updating students about current practices in the art industry. This will culminate by students writing critical reviews on the exhibition displayed and the seminars by students.

In 2007 the Visiting Artist Programme will host seven artists. The public is also invited to view the shows.
