FRENCH PRESENCE IN KZN (article first published : 2006-05-21)

In keeping with the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) vision and mission statement which strives to create sustainable relationships with the community, the projects spearheaded by the French Presence in KZN are aimed at celebrating the successes by the formidable French presence in KZN.

Community engagement by this organisation is achieved in a variety of creative ways. With diverse projects ranging from the donation of sewing machines to a school in Uqweqwe to creating a rose garden at DUT’s Riverside campus, the alliance between DUT and the French Presence in KZN is advantageous for all involved. The various events celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the launch of La Route du Prince Imperial, Louis Napoleon.

On May 26 in the Voortrekker Museum at 11h30, the 10th Anniversary: The Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon exhibition will be opened officially. In the museum’s auditorium from 14h00 to 16h00 on the same day, there will be a symposium on the theme Exile, Identity and the Origins of Cultural Tourism.

The 6th Annual Requiem Mass for The Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon will take place at 09h30 on May 27 in St Mary’s Chapel, Pietermaritzburg. Later the same day, in Dundee, a Soirée Française organised by Elisabeth Durham and Evan Jones will take place at 18h00.

The 10th Anniversary of the launch of La Route du Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon will take place in Uqweqwe at 10h00 on May 28.

On May 31, the South African Society of Music Teachers’ regular concert in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg at 13h10 will be titled The Prince Impérial Celebration Concert.
