POSITIVE 2006 (article first published : 2006-03-13)

The organisers of POSITIVE 2006, a Sun International initiative, are calling South Africa artists to assist in raising funds for HIV/AIDS in South Africa. This event, which is being staged from the June 9 to 11 at Sun City, will feature South African and international designers, models and artists (including Seal as the headline act).

As part of this event the organisers are inviting visual artists to consider exhibiting art work at this event. The themes for the art exhibition are "hope, healing and compassion". All art work will be sold to raise funds; however artists are not required to donate the work (of course they can if they want to!) - but are asked to agree that a percentage of the price achieved will go to Aids Hospice Tapologo.

Funds that are raised during the POSITIVE campaign will go towards the Tapologo, a non-profit organisation offering palliative and preventative care to many people living in impoverished conditions. Besides offering anti-retrovirals to many people who are HIV positive, the organisation assists with offering indigent people the opportunity to die in an environment that is compassionate and caring.

POSITIVE 2006 aims to have around 100 pieces of art on exhibit. Many South African opinion-makers and leaders in their field have joined forces on this project and visual artists are encouraged to be part of the very first collaborative project that will benefit a great cause.
