THEERTHA ARTS WORKSHOP (article first published : 2006-02-19)

Anoli of Theertha International Artists Collective in Sri Lanka has sent information of the organisation’s art workshop held every other year where artists from different parts of the world are invited to attend. This year’s workshop takes place from March 18 to April 2 in Sri Lanka.

“It is a interdisciplinary workshop where we would like to invite performance artists, visual artists as well as artists from theatre, dance and music who would be willing to work together in response to each others work during 14 days,” says Anoli.

“Artists would be provided shared accommodation, meals, workspace and modest material and living allowance while they are here. Since our budget is very small nothing is luxury and everything is modest. What we expect is for artists to respond to the local situation and work with locally available material during the 14 days and come up with an exhibition of 2D work, 3D work and performances at the end of the period where we would have an exhibition on site mostly in open air as most artists tend to work out door with nature, etc.”

Artists are invited to send email addresses of artists. Theertha International receives money for air travel for artists from the African continent and Asia and therefore can sponsor air tickets as well as a modest material and living allowance during the workshop.

“Best suited for the workshop would be young artists who have passed out from their college about few years ago to mid-career artists who have been active in 3D work such as installation, object work and also performance art,” adds Anoli. “Artists should be willing to work with local material.”
