AZARIA MBATHA SEMINAR (article first published : 2000-01-10)

The Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg is currently hosting the Azaria Mbatha Retrospective Exhibition until February 13. This exhibition curated by the Durban Art Gallery traces the development of one of South Africa’s finest printmakers (now living in Sweden) from his first linocuts to some of his recent works and includes screenprints, etchings and drawings.

An illustrated talk and walkabout for Grades 11 and 12 will take place in the Lecture Theatre at the Tatham on February 1 at 15h00. Cost R10 per student. Titled African Roots in the work of Azaria Mbatha, the talk will be given by Yvonne Winters, museologist at the Campbell Collections of the University of Natal, Durban. After tea, Jill Addleson, curator of collections at the DAG, will conduct a walkabout of the Azaria Mbatha Retrospective Exhibition. To book or for more details, phone Mduduzi or Kobus on (033) 342-1804.
