E- POS: PRINT EXHIBITION (article first published : 2005-08-21)

The DIT (Durban Institute of Technology) art Gallery proudly presents E-POS, a Print Exhibition from Caversham Centre for Artists and Writers in partnership with Frans Masereel Centre (Belgium).

E-POS was a unique partnership between the Frans Masereel Centre, in Kasterlee, Belgium and The Caversham Centre for Artists and Writers situated in the KZN Midlands. It provided an opportunity for a creative dialogue between two continents and between visual artists and writers that resulted in a unique print portfolio which transcends boundaries.

During November 2003, three-week residencies were hosted at both Printmaking Centres. At the Frans Masereel Centrum, Flemish Art-Photographer Malou Swinnen and novelist Suzanne Binneman worked in collaboration with South African poet Vonani Bila and fine artist Fikele Skhosana. While at Caversham Centre Flemish writer-philosopher Frans Boenders, with compatriot fine artist Linda Vinck, worked in conjunction with Cape Town-based writer Mavis Smallberg and artist-musician Garth Erasmus.

The result was a Bound portfolio of 26 original prints which include image and text.

The exhibition runs from 17h30 on September 5 to 23. More information from Themba Shibase, DIT Art Gallery curator on 031 204 2207 or 072 639 4020 or e-mail: thembas@dit.ac.za

Directions: Approach through Gate 2 on the DIT Mansfield campus and the DIT Art Gallery is in L.C. Block; 1st floor; above the library. Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday from 08h30 to 16h30 and Fridays from 08h30 to 14h00. Safe parking at entrance Gate no. 2 will be reserved for gallery visitors.
