BONISA WATERCOLOUR (article first published : 2005-08-1)

Bonisa Private Gallery will exhibit the works of well-known watercolour artists Anthea Martin and Grant Wood at their Open Day on August 7.

Anthea Martin is well-known in Durban art circles. She is the director of the African Art Centre but is also an artist of note in her own right with a background in fine arts and crafts. She was a student of Andrew Verster and Fiona Kirkwood and a private student of Professor Reed of Yale USA. She taught art and crafts to adults and children for many years.

Anthea paints in watercolours and mixed media. She likes to paint on site and visit the country areas of KwaZulu-Natal for her subject matter. She has a wide knowledge of current trends in South African art in general and is thoroughly familiar with the work of all the major practitioners in this field.

Grant Wood is a graduate of the University of Natal - not in art but in building - and holds a BSc. His studies included two years of architecture. Largely self taught, he has had successful exhibitions in Johannesburg at Zoo Lake. He has also exhibited in Cape Town and more recently on the South coast, near Port Shepstone.

Grant Wood paints in watercolours. His subject matter includes sea and landscapes.

Bonisa Private Gallery is at 47 Ronalds Road, Kloof. The Open Day on August 7 is open from 10h00 to 16h00 and again on August 10 at the same times. More information on 031 764 0288 or visit www.bonisa.co.za
