ART IN THE PARK (article first published : 2005-05-31)

The country's premier outdoor art event sees the top 20 selling artists from last year automatically qualifying to return to fill one of the 55 spaces available.

This year's development artist is Tim Dlamini, an apprentice at the Trayci Tompkins Ceramic Studio in Hilton.

Dlamini's raku fired figurines called "The Dlaminis” have since sold all over the world in the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan. He will exhibit his new range of raku-fired chickens for the first time at Art in the Park.

Returning to the outdoor art exhibition are several popular artists who have not exhibited in recent years. These include Simon Addy and Lynn Hoyle, wild life artist Ian van Zyl and nature and bushveld chalk pastel artist David Johnson.

A special feature of this year's event is the painting of a Cape Parrot by Ingrid Fouche which forms part of a fund-raising venturArt in the Park Takes place from June 2 to 6.e for the endangered bird, South Africa's only endemic parrot.
