HUSSEIN SALIM AND RAJA OSHI (article first published : 2005-03-1)

Returning by public demand for another Open Day at the Bonisa Private Gallery in Kloof will be highly-rated Sudanese artists: Hussein Salim and his wife Raja Oshi who successfully exhibited all over the world.

Hussein was born 1966 in Karima, Sudan, and studied Fine Art at Khartoum University where he met his wife Raja, who was also an art student. With the political problems in the Sudan, Hussein and Raja have spent much of their time in various countries in Europe and they have successfully exhibited in France, England, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy. Hussein`s paintings are on permanent display in leading galleries in these countries.

Now living in KwaZulu-Natal, Hussein`s and Raja`s extraordinary talent is reflected in the harmony of colours they achieve in their abstracts which captivate viewers. Hussein has a unique technique in using acrylic paint which gives his abstracts his personal stamp. Raja`s technique with the use of acrylic paint on canvas and paper is strikingly expressed in her female bodies and fascinating colours of her abstracts. Both artists will be at the Open Day.

Well-known radio actor turned artist John Simpson will again be in residence working on his charming Japanese-styled greeting cards.

Neil and Liesel Wright of Bonisa Private Gallery look forward to sharing this exceptional exhibition and invite readers to preview some of the art works on their website at www.bonisa.co.za

Bonisa’s Open Day takes place from 10h00 to 16h00 on March 6 and the gallery is situated at 47, Ronalds Road, Kloof. Phone 031 764 0288 or e-mail: bonisa47@mweb.co.za
