VISUAL ARTS (article first published : 1999-11-21)

Acclaimed satirical cartoonist Napier Dunn will exhibit at The Gallery in Westville from December 1 to 11. A well-known Durban personality, he has contributed to The Mercury on a regular basis since 1991 and has produced two highly popular calendars (1998 and 1999) of his watercolours of familiar Durban landmarks under the auspices of the newspaper. He has also exhibited previously at the Durban Art Gallery.

“Napier Dunn’s cartoons are biting visual commentary of local social, political and sporting activities,” says Darryn Crowe of The Gallery. “The exhibition promises a feast of satire and mix of spoof, wit, intelligent and glaringly controversial statements.”

All artwork will be for sale and the cartoons make perfect gifts for family and friends. Napier Dunn will be in residence at the Gallery on December 1, 4 and 11 when he will be available for ten minute sittings to draw caricatures of individuals at a cost of R60. Booking is essential on 266-5232.
