HARDCORE (article first published : 2004-10-1)

The BAT Centre is hosting Hardcore, an exhibition of wire sculptures by Nkosinathi Ntshalintshali which opens on October 7 at 18h00 in the Democratic Gallery.

Nkosinathi Ntshalintshali is a self-taught artist, who is working and living in KwaMashu, Durban. He works with wire medium to create figural sculpture, drawing his inspiration from his religion and projecting religious messages through his conceptual work. This is articulated through the use of symbolic figures drawn from a biblical story into which he incorporates his own interpretation of each particular story.

He has been working with wire sculptures since 1992, and has exhibited in a number of galleries locally like the Durban Art Gallery, the BAT Centre, etc. Currently he is working for Metro Water as an electrician and this has also impacted on his interest in wire.

More information from curator Nontobeko Ntombela at the BAT Centre on 031 332 0451.
